Synthesis Of Conventional L Aminoacids Capped Zns - 946 Words

2-1. Syntheses of the cysteamine-capped ZnS:Mn nanocrystals All the solvents, except deionized (DI) water, were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich (reagent grade) and distilled prior to use. All the reactants, including cysteamine (HSCH2CH2NH2), ZnSO4, MnSO4, and Na2S, were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich and used as received. A solution of quinine sulfate in H2SO4 (0.1 M) was purchased from Fluka to evaluate the relative quantum efficiencies of the products. ZnS:Mn-Cyst nanocrystals were synthesized following slight modifications of a previously reported method for the synthesis of conventional L-aminoacids-capped ZnS:Mn nanocrystals via the formation of zinc (II)-amino acid coordinated complexes as reactive intermediates.16 A 50 mL aqueous solution of ZnSO4 ·5H2O (1.44 g, 5 mmol) was slowly added to a 50 mL aqueous solution containing 0.77 g (10 mmol) of cysteamine. MnSO4 ·H2O (0.04 g, 0.2 mmol) and Na2S (0.40 g, 5 mmol) were seperatley dissolved in 20 mL of DI water. This mixture was subsequently transferred to the flask containing the [Zn-Cyst] complexes under vigorous stirring. The pH of the solutions was adjusted by the addition of 0.1 M NaOH or 0.1 M H2SO4 aqueous solution to the mixture solution. The resulting solution was refluxed for ∠¼10 h. Slow cooling to ambient temperature and the addition of ethanol produced yellow-white precipitates at the bottom of the flask. Finally, the obtained solids were separated by centrifu gation and decanting the supernatant. The solids were

Machiavellis Cycle of Governance and Checks and Balances Ideology free essay sample

Discourses on Livy written 1513-1517, is a commentary on the work of Titus Livy (59 BC AD 17) a Roman historian who wrote a monumental history of Rome entitled Ab Urbe Condita literally translating as from the founding of the city (Rome). What Machiavelli set out to detail within the Discourses in essence, is the refined knowledge gleaned from an in depth analysis of Livys accounts, observations of the legislative, socio-political and military management structures that provided Ancient Rome such a stable and economically fruitful empire. Concerning the structures of governance as it was in 16th century florence, Machiavelli expressed the opinion that only six forms of government exist that maintain a perpetual cycle of short lived power before sucuming to, what he viewed as a natural end. This is brought about either due to a successful insurection and instalment of a form of government which evolved out of oppression or a form of government that eventually grew to become greedy and corrupt through generational changes. We will write a custom essay sample on Machiavellis Cycle of Governance and Checks and Balances Ideology or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page The model Machiavelli presents begins with a society in a state of nature or Anarchy that exists until the people begin to realise strength in numbers and seek leadership from the foremost individual who assumes rulership, thus evolving into a Monarchy. The good Monarch is however, succeeded by corrupt rulers who use their power for their own gain and control through Tyranny. The Tyrant is eventually overthrown by a rebellion and the rebels retain control amongst themselves collectively producing an Aristocracy. The Aristocrats are then succeeded by a generation that again, begins to use its powers to oppress the people and becomes an Oligarchy. Like the Tyrant, they are overthrown by the oppressed who then form a Democracy. As time progresses, order and control dissolve completely until we find ourselves in a state of nature or Anarchy once again. As Machiavelli saw it, because of mans propensity to greed and corruption against the collective force of the oppressed victims, the cycle of instability could only ever provide temporal security and was not an effective enough solution. Machiavelli lived in a period of insessent political conflict and social disharmony which provided him with a deep rooted motivation to ensure order and stability could be demonstrated within the system he sought. Machiavelli drew the conclusion that a balance of power shared between a monarchical figure, an aristocratic institution and a democratic institution, as the Ancient Romans had implemented, was the most benificial arrangement in the interest of the state. In order to sustain order, it is necessary to employ the method of checks and balances, meaning each faction must regulate the other to prevent the accumulation of too power in the hands of an individual or particular group. Today we use the term separation of powers to identify this form of self monitoring government. Although critics of this form of power regulation state that it slows up progress, promotes excesses of executive power and unaccountability, those who would champion the method maintain it is an effective means to ensure liberty and democracy while avoiding the possibility of tyranny.

Despite one perceiver s averment that # 8221 ; The Constitutional Convention of 1787 is supposed to hold created a authorities of detached powers. It did nil of the kind. Rather it created a authorities of detached establishments sharing powers, # 8221 ; the Constitutional Convention really created a authorities that has separated powers every bit good as separate establishments sharing powers. The Framers intended for the national authorities non to be of one exclusive entity with exclusive power, but instead to be a authorities of several establishments with specific separate powers. Along with the separate powers, the Convention of 1787 intended those separate subdivisions to hold specific powers to look into the other subdivisions of the national authorities. The framers present at the Constitutional Convention of 1787 intended to make a authorities of detached powers. When the framers spoke of detached powers, they were mentioning to the division of a national authorities and its powers. The framers feared allowing the same entity all powers of authorities: legislative, judicial and executive. If one individual, group, or subdivision has all power, the people s autonomy is lost. James Madison provinces, The accretion of all powers, legislative, executive, and bench, in the same custodies, whether of one, a few, or many, and whether familial, self-appointed, or elected, may rightly be pronounced the really definition of dictatorship # 8230 ; . the saving of autonomy requires that the three great sections of power should be separate and distinguishable ( Federalist No. 47, Lasser, 9-10 ) . Here, Madison makes it apparent that the fright of one entity possessing all governmental power led the framers to set up a authorities of detached pow ers ; hence, the national authorities was divided into three subdivisions. The three subdivisions of the national authorities that the framers created are to hold separate and specific powers. Each subdivision has specifically allotted powers that are of importance to the national authorities. Madison refers to the New Hampshire province Constitution, that the legislative, executive, and judiciary powers ought to be kept as separate from, and independent of, each other as the nature of a free authorities will acknowledge ; or as is consistent with that concatenation of connexion that binds the whole cloth of the fundamental law in one insoluble bond of integrity and cordiality ( Federalist No. 47, Lasser, 11 ) . Congress is to make Torahs, the Judicial Branch is to interprets Torahs, and the Executive Branch is to ens ure that the Torahs are executed. These powers are specifically designated so that no other subdivision shall take portion in the allotted powers of another subdivision. Madison quotes the Massachusetts fundamental law, that the legislative section shall neer exert the executive and judicial powers†¦ ( Federalist No. 47, Lasser, 12 ) . Madison believed that each subdivision should so be separate with separate and distinguishable powers. Next, although the framers had created a authorities of separate powers, they besides wanted to guarantee that each subdivision did non take advantage of its allotted powers. Therefore, the framers instilled the system of shared powers. Each subdivision was granted the right to look into and equilibrate the other subdivisions ; this system of shared powers is an indispensable portion of America s authorities today. Through checking and equilibrating each other, the three subdivisions are basically guaranting the saving of autonomy for this state and its citizens. As Madison provinces in his Federalist Paper No. 51, But the great security against a gradual concentration of several powers in the same section consists in giving to those who administer each section the necessary constitutional agencies and personal motivations to defy invasions of the others ( Lasser, 15 ) . Here, Madison is mentioning to the fact that each subdivision will utilize its ain motivations to look into and eq uilibrate the other subdivisions. James Q. Wilson besides agrees, he says of James Madison: To him and others at the Philadelphia Convention, the proper manner to maintain authorities in cheque while still go forthing it strong plenty to execute its indispensable undertakings was to let the opportunism of one individual to look into the opportunism of another ( American Government, Wilson, 22 ) . Madison and the other framers believed that autonomy could be preserved by leting the selfish involvement of people to look into and equilibrate each other. Hence, sharing powers was besides an intended aim of the Constitutional Convention of 1787. In decision, despite one perceiver s averment that # 8221 ; The Constitutional Convention of 1787 is supposed to hold created a authorities of detached powers. It did nil of the kind. Rather it created a authorities of detached establishments sharing powers, # 8221 ; the Constitutional Convention really created a authorities that has separated powers every bit good as separate establishments sharing powers. The framers desired to make a authorities that was divided into subdivisions, instead than holding one exclusive entity control all power. Alternatively, the framers divided the authorities into three subdivisions that possessed separate and distinguishable powers. In add-on to the separate powers, the framers granted each subdivision specific powers to look into and equilibrate the other two subdivisions ; hence, America s civil autonomies and protection against dictatorship was ensured.

3 Parallel-Structure Problems

3 Parallel-Structure Problems 3 Parallel-Structure Problems 3 Parallel-Structure Problems By Mark Nichol Each of the following sentences has an organizational flaw. A discussion of each is followed by a suggested revision. 1. People who are successful at careers in fashion design are hardworking, detail oriented, and love apparel. Each of the three qualities of successful fashion designers must be preceded by a verb, or they all must share one- or the first two must be connected by a conjunction in order to share one. Here, hardworking is supported by are and apparel follows love, but â€Å"detail oriented† is orphaned. The sentence must be restructured so that â€Å"detail oriented† shares are with hardworking: â€Å"People who are successful at careers in fashion design are hard working and detail oriented and love apparel.† (â€Å"People who are successful at careers in fashion design are hard working, are detail oriented, and love apparel† is also correct, but the first two qualities are closely related as terms that refer to aptitudes as opposed to the attitudinal quality of an interest in attire, so sharing of a conjunction seems more appropriate.) 2. Gluten has been blamed for everything from weight gain, bloating to mood issues such as depression. A list of factors must be organized as a list or a spectrum, but this sentence, although it is constructed to express a range of several factors, mixes the approaches. For consistency, the factors should be separated by prepositions only, without punctuation: â€Å"Gluten has been blamed for everything from weight gain to bloating to mood issues such as depression.† 3. Site users can be matched by location, gender, age, sexual orientation, and they’re encouraged to post a photo and personal description. The independent clause that follows the conjunction and is not part of the list in the preceding independent clause, which requires and before the final item in that list: â€Å"Site users can be matched by location, gender, age, and sexual orientation, and they’re encouraged to post a photo and personal description.† Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? Web Based Health Information Analysis Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Web Based Health Information Analysis - Essay Example The HON criteria include privacy, transparency, attribution and authority (http://www.hon.ch/HONcode/Conduct.html). This health website has no privacy because anyone can easily access it including young children and this is against the HON criteria as it is risky for underage children without proper preparation. The site hides no information from the general public and hence can be considered to be transparent in its own way and according to the criteria set by HON. As far as the website is concerned, there is no attribution whatsoever and thus the credentials of the website are questionable. It has many followers because it is easily accessible and hence has a bit of authority as far as online health information is concerned. This website therefore has not fulfilled all the criterion requirements that are stipulated by HON’s code of conduct for health websites and therefore something should be done about that because it is not helpful to the public who do not have any idea whether the website meets the criteria or not (Larson, 2011). Even though this epilepsy website does not fulfill all the stipulated criteria of HON, the much it has not fulfilled can be worked on quickly and hence have it included in the patient teaching program as a resource since this website compared to other epilepsy website contains much more information and fulfills most of the criteria put out by HON to health websites (Cullen, 2006). The inclusion in the patient teaching program will however depend on the website owners and whether or not they are willing to fulfill the unfulfilled HON criteria and do it as soon as possible. If they agree, then it can be included but if they don’t, then doubts will be raised whether it really qualifies or

Ethics Acounting and Finance Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Ethics Acounting and Finance - Essay Example As the report declares in concrete terms accounting measures profit and resources, telling how much is the assets, liabilities and capital of a business organization, which are a combination of the interest of the owners and creditors. An income statement tells the results of operation of a business for a given period say a month, or a year, while a balance sheet show the financial condition of a business organization as of a given time say year 1995 or 2000. This paper stresses that from their definitions, we can easily discern that there is a difference between the two. A finance manager who heads a department where accounting is a division would exert an influence to have accounting division help finance department in the attainment of the objective of the latter that is the maximization of stockholders wealth. What do you think is the result? Finance will have a biased report because, the Finance manager will just say to the accounting head, â€Å"you must practice creative accounting for us to look good to our stockholders.† The head of the accounting office will respond in submission to the head of the finance department, his boss. In an organization ideals, are ideals but human nature would rear its ugly head if one function could abuse another functional area. Accounting is better combined with a management information system because they both serve the same purpose that is to provide accurate and reliable information for d ecision-making and in addition, there must be ethics as to practice of the two functional areas.

Transcendentalism In Modern Life Essay Example for Free

Transcendentalism In Modern Life Essay 1.) The modernity of life has come to the extent where human beings are becoming mechanical and less sensitive to the physical environment. The human as a physical form, as being part of nature, as being one by nature is losing his capability to connect and feel himself as being part of it and thus he is alienated, apathetic to his surroundings. Human as a body is one true part of nature. Every physical parts of him correlate with nature. From the Walden of Thoreau, â€Å"A lake is the landscape’s most beautiful and expressive feature. It is the earth’s eye; looking into which the beholder measure the depth of his own nature.† The human eye is said to be the â€Å"window to the soul.† The depth of one’s character can be reflected thru his eyes. His eyes express sincerity about his thoughts and feelings. The lake is like the human eyes, reflecting the beauty of nature. The human eyes exude beauty. Beauty is nature. Nature is beauty. The nature and the human eyes gives all living creatures something to explore, something new and colorful that makes life worth living each day. The modern life has given us everything that is actually not part of nature. Consumerism is one thing that incites our desire to seek for alienation to nature. Endless offers of products and services that degenerates our senses, especially the eyes, to lose its depth. Thoreau laments over this culture,   Ã¢â‚¬Å" There is an influx of novelty into the world, and yet we tolerate incredible dullness.† As mentioned nature as beauty, it has so much to offer. But with the modern life of consumer culture, the beauty of nature is so much unappreciated. Modern humans are incessantly losing his ability to connect with nature. He failed to willfully discover the beauty of nature, the beauty of his own humanity because of the exceeding production for consumer goods that creates his lifestyle. The paradigm of his life based on this culture creates him in a way apart from nature. Thus the modern human life denies him self of beauty as he denies himself being part of nature and for the years to come, only nature can bring out true beauty. 2.) For a moment, the voice of the unheard, â€Å"I,† come to life. One cannot deny that living in oneness with nature will speak out the voice of our unsaid and ignored self. The truth about nature say tells you that life offers so much more than what you can see from the daily modern life created by superficiality of human life. It is true that nature and the human body is one. Without those gadgets around me, I came to realize that every thought and every word in my head offers me something new, something exciting. My thoughts are part of nature. With my thoughts and with my words I have come to realize that life’s essences exist in the discovery of my very own ability to receive my very own thoughts. It helped me become true to myself. Myself is true to nature. Nature is who I am. The exploration of thoughts comes like an overflowing river. I swam into the overflowing river of thoughts. It is diverse and fresh. Something is yearning to be heard and that voice is nothing else but mine. I don’t need anything to tell me that I am beautiful. Nothing in this consumer world would define that beauty for me – only my thoughts. I am becoming more open to this mind and bodily presence. I need not to conform to anything that nature does not give. Anything that is natural is pleasurable. Abundance is present at this very moment. I am thankful that I have everything I need to live. The less I think of the superficial, the more abundance of life is offered to me. As I perceive things that I purchased, I find out that this is going to be an endless thirst that comes merely from insecurity. Now, I don’t need to linger my thoughts when and how will I finally get this and that but now, I am becoming more and more eager to seek my humanity in the existence of nature as being part of me. I didn’t expect such adventure with my thoughts is such a fun and enjoyable ride. Color I think there is so much color to what I can see now. This color of life is coming from within, a true essence of human nature, my nature. 3. ) Based on the works by Nathaniel Hawthorne, this is the question that I am posing: Why are things not what they seem to be? The greatest antagonist of life is the one that we thought it was but after all, we don’t really know what it is. A great poser of something good but thoroughly evil is the most evil of all. The things that we see that possesses the character of something good hides behind this veil and yet it is actually evil. Opening our mind and heart to truth is the central message of Hawthorne’s work. It seeks to remind us that when we feel we hear about the truth. Denying ourselves from feeling the things around us is a lie. A lie is usually concealed, packed well to hide itself and attack its victim to lose his will to live. A lie is traitor and it will infest itself to someone who will accommodate it. Life is created by packaging. We do not really know what is lying underneath. Because of so many ways to package something, we are usually deceived by our senses. It’s not that our senses take control of that ability but the human mind and heart. When one is deceived by that packaging, he is in weak control of his senses.   It is never easy to realize that something is not what is seems to be. Evil by nature will cover him self from seeing him as evil. Slowly it will pull you to its trap. It will pose in front of you as something good. The ability of one to feel and listen to his own faith will be the only thing that will lead him to avoid evil. Learning to listen to our senses and putting our faith into our minds and our hearts will keep us from going astray. The worst enemy will come closer to our feet as the best friend. Real human intension comes from the goodness of his intentions and not from how good he seems to be. The real test of goodness doesn’t depend on how good one person seem to be. What we see on the outside is usually a lie. Only our true senses kind find that truth of what is within. 4. ) Emily Dickinson’s Poetry NATURE, the gentlest mother, Impatient of no child, The feeblest or the waywardest,— Her admonition mild In forest and the hill By traveller is heard, Restraining rampant squirrel Or too impetuous bird. How fair her conversation, A summer afternoon,— Her household, her assembly; And when the sun goes down Her voice among the aisles Incites the timid prayer Of the minutest cricket, The most unworthy flower. When all the children sleep She turns as long away As will suffice to light her lamps; Then, bending from the sky, With infinite affection And infiniter care, Her golden finger on her lip, Wills silence everywhere. Nature: In this poetry, nature is described as the mother. Her children are the animals and the landscape. Her voice is heard everywhere by her children. She gives unlimited patience and love. Her voice resounds prayer to all living creatures from the one that is the most beautiful up to the very least. Like human beings, our mothers are the endless source of love. We humans are children of nature. We find nature as the endless possibility of our daily needs and resources.   At night her children sleep, nature is a nurturer that opens her light to the darkness of the night. Like our mothers who always keep us safe during our sleep, nature secures us from sleeping safely through the night.   Her motherly love is endless. She keeps the night quiet to her sleeping children. For anything that makes noise, she keeps them quiet as her every child yearns for serenity. WILL there really be a morning? Is there such a thing as day? Could I see it from the mountains If I were as tall as they? Has it feet like water-lilies? Has it feathers like a bird? Is it brought from famous countries Of which I have never heard? Oh, some scholar! Oh, some sailor! Oh, some wise man from the skies! Please to tell a little pilgrim Where the place called morning lies! Will: Here, a traveler is in search of morning. A human being signifies the traveler for life is a metaphor of journey. Morning signifies serenity. It is something that keeps us happy. The traveler is seeking serenity for it is something that he finds unattainable. He seeks the beauty in of serenity. He knows that it is as beautiful as nature. Serenity is something so mysterious to him that he questions if it is something from another place.   He asks a scholar, a sailor and any wise man to define what serenity is and where he can find it.   Serenity, as simple as it seems to be is hard to find. In every morning that we wake up, we want to seek serenity as life unfolds in our eyes. 5. ) Moby Dick by Herman Melville Nature is one of the most ultimate aspects in Moby Dick. Ishmael is the main character and he begins the journey as he rides the ship Pequod under the command of the captain Aheb. He finds out that Aheb is in search of a white whale. Ishmael learns that Aheb is seeking revenge from the white whale because it takes away his leg. Towards the end, the white whale destroys Pequod. This story is very symbolic about nature. Aheb is the ultimate example of human being who doesn’t care for nature. Human beings are sometimes insensitive of nature and tend to take control of it to the extent that he tries to even exploit it. The white whale is like nature – it keeps its beauty and mystery. When human beings bring something that aims to harm nature, it has all its powers and forces to bring back humans to respect nature. Just like when calamities happens, nature has its own way to destroy the lives that it nurtures. Aheb is one example of the modern human life – the least aware of what can nature bring to him. Like Aheb, sometimes humans think that they really can control of everything. But like the white whale, nature has its own share of mystery to respond to humans who are exploiting her. The very thought of conquering something so huge is usually the common thought of human beings. Huge bank accounts, huge houses, huge malls, huge buildings and the like. Humans seem to have created a huge world about the superficial and the material. But after all, nature is still something bigger than what it seems to be. As humans try to conquer nature against the world that he is trying to build, nature is going back to regain its power and remind humans that he is only a part of nature. Nature has its means to give birth to the life that humans are slowly taking. The only thing that humans can take from nature is what it can also get back. Nature provides its laws for humans to obey and only obey. 6.) From the Great Lawsuit: â€Å"it is a built-in necessity of human nature to express itself, that self-expression, like self-development, is one of the purposes of life itself. [Transcendentalism] insists, first, that the well-being of the individual—of all the individuals—is the basic purpose and ultimate justification for all social organizations and second that autonomous individuals cannot exist apart from others. Transcendentalism believes that the purpose of education is to facilitate the self-development of each individual. The political trajectory of transcendentalism begins in philosophical freedom and ends in democratic individualism.† This tells us that humans are entitled to express himself and this is they way he finds himself. His well-being can be found only within himself. Every human has the power to build himself through the power of his thoughts. It is considerably his most wonderful ability for it is something that is constantly and ever growing. Self-expression is one integral human activity that makes him aware of himself. When one is aware of who he is, he knows what he wants and he knows what he can do. Self-expression to human beings is a basic necessity. However, an individual cannot exist only by himself. He also needs the help of others. Transcendentalism emphasizes that an individual needs to believe himself in order to create harmony with others. Although humans have their own right to self-expression he cannot disregard other nor destroy others by this will of self-expression. For example, a person can ridicule someone with the intentions of pulling him down and his only reason is self-expression. That is not self-expression it is more like self-disdain. Transcendentalism points that education is the foundation of human thought and how human will create the world around him. The human mind is complex and therefore has the ability to create and recreate his world as well as his future. Education is not simply just going to school. It is more like becoming aware of what the world is. Education allows human beings to explore his thoughts and the end of this is for him to explore the world and what he can do to live his life.   Political trajectory of transcendentalism roots from the will of a human to question that is everything around him. His quest for answers in this life is his sole freedom to do. BIBLIOGRAPHY Books: Adams, Stephen, and Donald A. Ross. Revising Mytholo gies: The Composition of Thoreau’s Major Works. Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock Essay: A Beautifully Complicated Maste

The Love Song Of J. Alfred Prufrock : A Beautifully Complicated Masterpiece The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, by T.S. Eliot is a beautifully complicated masterpiece. The poem rises above all standards of poetry and completely blows your mind. The poem consists of twenty stanzas, each telling a different part of the story of J. Alfred Prufrock's life. Eliot uses many poetic devices to add a hint of magic to the sound of the poem. The diction he uses turns what seems to be a normal poetic work of art into a dream where everything flows together like magic. An example of his diction would be Eliot's powerful use of metaphor in lines 15 - 25 of the poem. The yellow fog that rubs its back upon the window-panes, The yellow smoke that rubs its muzzle on the window-panes, Licked its tongue into the corners of the evening, Lingered upon the pools that stand in drains, Let fall upon its back the soot that falls from chimneys, Slipped by the terrace, made a sudden leap, And seeing that it was a soft October night, Curled once about the house, and fell asleep. And indeed there will be time For the yellow smoke that slides along the street Rubbing its back upon the window-panes;... In your mind, you can just picture a yellowish fog floating around a house, through a fence, or over the trees. His diction gives you a perfect image of the yellow fog. I believe that the 'yellow fog' is a metaphor symbolizing love. Love is slow, like the yellow fog it touches everything, it invades everything around it. There will always be time for love. There's time for everything. Another poetic device that El... ...ces dying with a dying fall beneath the music from a farther room. So how should I presume?"; confusion in others, "Then how should I begin to spit out all the butt- ends of my days and ways'? And how should I presume?"; fear in others, "And I have seen the eternal Footman hold my coat, and snicker, and in short, I was afraid."; and still loneliness in others, "I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each. I do not think that they will sing to me." The entire poem is sad. He feels lost. He is not understood, he feels old, he wishes he made more of a splash before the 'Footman' comes to get him. He wishes he lived more, loved more, laughed more. The Love Story of J. Alfied Prufrock emphasizes a man who has loved and lost someone he deeply cared about. But as the saying goes, "'Tis better to have loved and lost, than to never have loved at all."

Discussion 5. 6 Key Issues 4. 1. 1 Cigarette smuggling and illegal trading Cigarette smuggling had caused huge losses on revenue for British American Tobacco (BAT) and government around the world. One of the countries that had been hit hardly by this problem is China. China market are accommodate with cigarette smuggling that are possibly the largest smuggling effort in the world. Amount up to US$1. 8billion in lost tax revenues annually (British American Tobacco and Cigarettes Smuggling in China, 2006) had been recorded cause by these activities. The main reason cigarette smuggling is popular is because the government effort to reduce or stop the amount of people from smoking. Government of China uses the method of increasing the tax opposes to cigarette. Tax rises up to 200% in Hong Kong in year 1991 (British American Tobacco and Cigarettes Smuggling in China, 2006) that subsequently increase the trade in black market. The method did not successfully reduce the amount of smokers but pathetically shifted smokers towards illegal trade in black market. The demand in black market rises because the price of cigarette is relatively lower than the cigarette in legal trade market. This encourages the cigarette smuggling in that country. British American Tobacco is interested in entering the huge potential market in China. Although China government is in effort of reducing smokers in their country, BAT remains their interests in their market. Under the Chinese Law, the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration is the sole agency allowed to trade in tobacco (British American Tobacco and Cigarettes Smuggling in China, 2006). Collaborating with the government agencies seems to be a success for Bat in entering the market but cigarettes smuggling activities had cause BAT to face difficulties in entering the market. Annually, China market losses 30%-50% in total to illicit trade in cigarettes. BAT sales figure to China declines dramatically in year 1991 at the beginning of implementing China’s method in reducing smokers. It is difficult for BAT to sustain their business in China and the amount of Tax revenues losses to cigarettes smuggling are huge. Government agencies are revising another method in reducing smokers in the country while custom officials in China have been preventing the worst impact on cigarettes smuggling in the nation every day. Economy in Malaysia faces negative impact from the current illegal trade all over Malaysia. British American Tobacco Malaysia reveals that the illegal trades of cigarettes in Malaysia had raises from 20 per cent in year 2002 to 36. 3 per cent in 2010. While the legal volume of cigarettes trade had reduces. This lost in legal volume in cigarettes trade had resulted in the losses of tax revenues up to at least RM2 billion annually. The illegal trade also impacted on the health issues of citizens in a country. Government tends to increase or remain the price of cigarettes in high prices in an effort of preventing, reducing and encouraging smokers to quit smoking. Illegal trade of cigarettes became popular among smokers because the price are lower, thus forcing them to purchase cigarettes from illegal traders. With the low price on illegal cigarettes, people are tend to pick up smoking that will cause an increasing health risk and issues in that country either to the smokers nor to the public’s cause by environmental tobacco smokes (ETC) (British American Tobacco Malaysia, 2011). 4. 1. 2 Government regulatory Smoking had been classified as risky to health issues by World health Organizations. British American Tobacco (BAT) introduced harm reduction on cigarettes became the key elements in their business strategy (British American Tobacco Malaysia, 2011). Research and development team has been put up on finding methods for smokers to minimise their health risk without them completely quitting smoking. Research and development team in BAT had successfully found a way in reducing the tobacco content in cigarettes that may possess minimizing health risk for smokers. BAT believes it will brings benefits for smokers in the future as the content of tobacco are reduced but most governments agencies suggested it should be prevented rather than reducing the tobacco content in cigarettes. Reducing health impact on tobacco use is BAT long-term strategy in benefitting the smokers. Harm reduction program are still carrying on in researching and developing methods. 4. 1. 3 Protecting Ecosystem The recent establishment of British American Tobacco (BAT) Biodiversity Partnership with Fauna and Flora International (FFI), the Tropical Biology Association (TBA) and Earth-watch Institute (Earthwatch Institute Case Studies, 2010) is to protect and maintain the environment after it had been used for tobacco planting. In this partnership, they aim to provide social responsibilities towards the public and also environment. There are steps and procedures to be followed in protecting the environment. BAT are recognize as the sectors leaders (Earthwatch Institute Case Studies, 2010) because their initiative in proper forestation and social responsibility programs. In completing these activities, extra cost are incurred. Efforts of forestation required extra funding from the company. This increases the operational cost of BAT and left those answering investors question on their return of profits margin. Extra investment might be needed to ensure the program to be proceeding. Cost incurred are in huge amount because BAT’s tobacco leaf suppliers are in different regions, therefore, proper planning is advise before programs can be fully carry out for all their suppliers. 4. 1. 4 External Environment An external environment factor is also an unpredictable problem towards British American Tobacco. External environment in the like of natural disaster such as fires on plantation cause by weather, plantation infected by insects, typhoon and more cannot be predicted. This natural disaster will destroy the whole plantation and there is no possible ways that BAT’s suppliers can do to prevent it. The tobacco plantation destroyed will cause the company to losses entirely in the plantation cost. It will also causes shortage of supplies towards BAT manufacturing plant and delayed their manufacturing process. This mishap can cause huge losses to the company annual profits. Insurances are not covered because damages done by natural disaster is not included. BAT will suffers a total lost in the event of strike of natural disasters. 5. 7 SWOT Analysis Source: Pierce and Robinson 2009. Recommendations It was found out that British American Tobacco (BAT) is facing huge competition among the tobacco industry due to numerous brands in the market. In addition, cigarettes typically bring a bad perception to people lately. So, instead of scrambling around, the company is proposed to get rid of the red oceans by moving its business slowly toward the blue oceans, but not immediately. Thus, applying the purple oceans strategy could be the first step for BAT. The phase â€Å"purple oceans† means to stay in the combination of both red oceans and blue oceans. Hence, this strategy enables the play safe method and allows BAT to maintain its existing loyal customers, at the same time generating new extra customers through the product innovation. According to Dr Joe Leung, the first scholars that propose the purple ocean strategy, there are total 5Cs needed to be master before an enterprise could position itself in the purple oceans and the 5Cs are namely as cost, cash, customer, competence and counterpart (Fortune Making, 2012). Only when BAT able to mastered the 5Cs and poises themselves in the purple oceans, then only the company could explore toward the blue ocean. For BAT, the blue ocean could be established through product innovation. Since the company has their own research centre which is located at Southampton UK (BAT, 2012), therefore BAT could make use of it to develop their new products. For instance, create cigarettes that bring harmless to our health by replacing those harmful ingredients inside the cigarette. Once cigarette is harmless, it is not only creating the new market for BAT, but also changing people’s perception toward smoking. Furthermore, the government no longer got the reason to resist cigarette. Besides than using the oceans strategy, horizontal integration could be an alternative strategy recommended to BAT in order to improve the company’s business strategy. The horizontal integration is a strategy that allows the company to increase its market share in the tobacco industry through merging or taking over the similar companies (Biz Dharma, 2012). Since BAT is having a strong financial position, therefore the company may utilize this advantage in order to merge with those weaker companies. By applying this strategy, BAT able to grow its market share rapidly and what most important is it could reduce the number of competitors for BAT and switch them to become partners. 6. Maternal Health Child Mini

1) Do you believe there is a need for public health influence in the area of family planning? What would be the role? I believe public health has many benefits for every individual especially women. One of the benefits is that family planning services allows individuals to aimly achieved their own family size, and contributes to improved health outcomes for infants, children, women as well as families (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1999, pg. 1075). Some these benefits services include educating about preventing sexually transmitted infection such as HIV, herpes, syphilis etc. Besides from education, they also counsel patients especially women who are taking contraceptives and/or IUD devices. Counseling is critical part in health care because it helped women and men to be aware of the risks that they are taking when it comes to having another child and know all the unexpected and expected outcomes when it comes to prenatal and postnatal care. Effective methods such as Breast, pelvic examinations, breast and cervical screenings are found the first step for women who are at risk for breast or cervical cancer. Without these services, there is a high chance of more unintended pregnancies in America as well as premature babies and mortality. Recent article, Guttmacher Institute (2012) stated â€Å"Each year, publicly funded family planning services prevent 1. 94 million unintended pregnancies, including 400,000 teen pregnancies (Guttmacher institute, 2012, pg. 3). With that being said, family planning services have been effective for women who decided not to get pregnant. It also helped Medicaid, a federal USA health program for low income adults and children, by Medicaid saving a lot of expenditures from pregnancy-related care ( Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1999, pg. 1074). With the help of Family planning program, this helped save a lot of families from psychological problems to financial problems. Unfortunately, Guttmacher (2012) listed most women who are in a poverty line, have low education level or are single parents are less likely to have access of family planning services (pg. 5). Some of the obstacles for these women who are not on the family planning services are because of lack of awareness about family planning services, limited access to publicly funded services and access to insurance coverage. These obstacles challenges because many americans are still left out of insurance. With the help of Obama administration which is trying to get every single american to have affordable insurance. This will help bridge the gap even more close for more additional women to take the step into getting family planning services. Elements of preconception care should be integrated into every primary care visit for women of reproductive age. 23 Preconception care must not be limited to a single visit to a health care provider, but rather be a process of care designed to meet the needs of an individual. 25 As part of comprehensive preconception care, providers should encourage patients to develop a reproductive life plan. A reproductive life plan is a set of goals and action steps based on personal values and resources about whether and when to become pregnant and have (or not have) children. 3 Providers also must educate patients about how their reproductive life plan impacts contraceptive and medical decision-making. Increased awareness of the importance of preconception care can be achieved through public outreach and improved collaboration between health care providers. Currently, only 30. 3 percent of women report receiving pre-pregnancy health counseling. 13 Future efforts should promote research to furth er define the evidence-based standards of preconception care, determine its cost-effectiveness, and improve tracking of the proportion of women obtaining these services. High School Cliques essays

High School Cliques essays Every school has "cliques"; small groups of people with similar interests who hang out exclusively with one another. But are cliques harmful to the high school environment? The next time you walk into our school cafeteria, take a look around. If your school is like a lot of others in America, there are gaggles of kids sitting together in little groups, each group distinctly separate from the other. These cliques are the driving force behind social patterns in the high school setting; the clique you're in determines whom you associate with, what activities you're involved in, and whether or not your high school experience is a happy one. And if you're not in a clique, what do you do? The cliques in High School really seem to alienate a lot of kids. The athletes won't talk to the drama kids, or the skaters won't talk to the academic kids, it's like there's no unity, and we're not a real community. Cliques in high school seem to have a greater effect on the kids that don't fit into a group than those associated with a certain crowd. There are a lot of kids who seem really unhappy because there aren't a lot of people with similar interests to hang around with, Some people think that kids who aren't in a clique are in a little clique of their own. Usually those people aren't happy being by themselves, they're just lonely and they actually feel like outcasts. Student leaders agree that the growing lack of unity in schools is one of the most difficult problems they face. Our school has all these little cliques that compete with each other. It's really hard to get into one of them if you're a loner, so a lot of kids are just left out. Sure, the existence of cliques can decrease communication between students in a school, but can they really undermine a student's quest for happiness, or even cause violence, as the media suggested in the wake of school shootings like the one in Columbine? There are so many acts of violence in schoo...

Identifying Understanding Masculine Rhyme

Identifying Understanding Masculine Rhyme A masculine rhyme happens when a rhyme is on the final syllable of a wordthat syllable is stressed Green and Mean are masculine rhymes, as are Invest and Undressed, Import and Short, and Intrude and Food. In looking at masculine rhymes, we have two separate components: the rhyme, and the stress. Rhyme Rhymes are simply identical (or very similar) sounds. An okay rhyme is head and pet, since both share the same vowel sound, but head and bed are a closer rhyme, because they share a vowel and a consonant sound. Rhymes dont have to be from the same letters, either. As we see above, invest and undressed rhyme, even though one ends in -st and one in -ssed. Its not about the letters themselves; its all about the sound they make. Stress Stress is a little trickier to understand. In English, we dont put the same amount of emphasis on every syllable in a word. A syllable is stressed when we put emphasis on it- beCAUSE, CHATtering, RUSHes, perSIMMon. Those syllables that are not stressed are, not surprisingly, known as unstressed. A good way to figure out which syllables are stressed and unstressed in a word is to play around with emphasizing difference syllables. Does IMpossible sound the same as imPOSSible or imposs-I-ble or impossiBLE? Some words have more than one stressed syllable, although one is usually more stressed than the others- REconSIDer (where the third syllable is more stressed than the first). Words that are only one syllable are usually automatically stressed, although it depends on their context within a sentence. So, to have a masculine rhyme, we need two (or more) words that end with the same sounds, and both have stressed last syllables. Sink and Wink and Think are all masculine rhymes. As are Overdue and Debut, and Combine and Sign. Not Gendered As you can see, masculine rhyme has nothing to do with gender. The term was coined long enough ago that stressed syllables, more powerful than unstressed syllables, were equated with the masculine; words ending with unstressed syllables (like RUSHing, HEAVen, and PURple) are all considered feminine endings- when those kinds of words rhyme, its known as feminine rhyme. How to Identify Masculine Rhyme For the most part, once you know the rules of masculine rhymes, theyre pretty easy to spot. As long as the words in question rhyme in their final (or only) syllable, and that syllable is stressed, the rhyme is masculine. Check out the poetry excerpts below for examples of masculine rhyme. Examples From John Donnes Holy Sonnet XIV: Batter my heart, three-personed God, for youAs yet but knock, breathe, shine, and seek to mend; That I may rise, and stand, o’erthrow me, and bendYour force to break, blow, burn, and make me new. So we have two rhymes here you/new and mend/bend. Since all of these words are one syllable long, they are automatically stressed. Rhyme? Check. Stressed syllable? Check. These are masculine rhymes. From On the Dangers of Open Water by Liz Wager: This beauty we dont understand will sweepus out to sea. We look for it belowour bows, but if we try to understandthe workings of that beauty we perceive, were driven mad by all we cannot know.We force ourselves to roam between the strandstill, like Narcissus, drown to find reprieve. Here, we have a couple different rhymes: below/know, understand/strands, perceive/reprieve. (While understand and strands are not perfect rhymes, theyre pretty close.) In this example, there are multi-syllable words: they all end with a stressed syllable- perCEIVE, rePRIEVE, and beLOW. Stressed final syllables? Yes. Rhymes? Yes. Another example of masculine rhyme. Why Do Poets Use Masculine Rhyme? In addition to knowing what masculine rhyme is, and how to identify it, its also helpful to understand why a poet might use it in a poem, or what masculine rhyme contributes to a poem. There are several ways to emphasize particular words in a poem. Placement in a line, stress, and rhyme all make words stand out. In the above examples, all the masculine rhymes occur at the end of the line; just by having that white space to their right, these words are more prominent, more visible. Our eyes linger on those final words before we move onto the next line. Stress, too, emphasizes a word; words like to, the, an, a, and, if, or, at, etc., are usually all unstressed in poetic lines, while stressed words have more meaning, more life. And, when words are rhymed, they stand out. The more times we hear a certain sound repeated, the more we pay attention to that sound- just think about the poetry of Dr. Seuss! So, having masculine rhymes (especially those at the end of lines) help a poet to really emphasize the important words of a poem. Whether a reader realizes it or not, stressed syllables and words tend to stick in our memories better, as do the repetition of sounds that we find in rhyme. So, the next time you read a poem that incorporates rhyme (such as a sonnet or a pantoum), check to see if it is making use of masculine rhyme, and how that use is impacting your reading experience.

Group Project Phase 3 - Assignment Example His agency is the only one entrusted with the punishment of all the convicted suspects. It means that the Security Chief of the state correctional facility has short-term, intermediate, and long-term interaction with all the suspects. Major Allen Irongate, who is the Security Chief of the state correctional facility, represents Virtual detention Center on a number of occasions, especially when culprits commit crimes within the facility (Ferdico, Fradella, & Totten, 2013).   One of the major resources available to the correctional facility is the Virtual Detention Center. Perhaps this is the primary physical resource at the disposal of the correctional facility to execute its mandate. The detention center serves as a prison and remands for the suspects awaiting the hearing of their cases. Additionally, the detention center aids in the interim accommodation of suspect who are on parole. Other resources available to the correctional facility to execute its mandate include the other security departments that work hand in hand with Major Allen Irongate in order to deliver justice to the people of Virtual. Under the watchful eye of Major Allen Irongate, the correctional facility liaises with the Virtual Police Department and other agencies in order to fight crime. Raymond Burr, who is the chief criminal prosecutor from the Office of the District Attorney, plays a key role in prosecuting suspects who commit crimes in detention centers. Evidence relates such i nmates as John â€Å"Jacky† Pole with drug peddling within the correctional facility (Ferdico, Fradella, & Totten, 2013).   In as much as the correctional facility is trying its best to deliver the correct punishment to the criminals operating in Virtual like the Very bad Bike Club (VBBC), it is worth noting that certain resource shortfalls preclude a more effective response. Perhaps one of the major resource shortfalls in the correctional facility,
